The City of Makarska is an economic, cultural and social center of Makarska Riviera and the second largest city in Central Dalmatia. It is located at 43° 17' 38" longitude and 17° 1' 20" latitude, 80 km south of Split-Kaštela airport and 120 km north of Ćilipi airport in Dubrovnik. Makarska is situated in a natural harbor protected by two peninsulas, Osejava and St. Peter. Mt. Biokovo and the highest mountain peak in Croatia, St. Jure at 1762 m separate it from the hinterland, and Adriatic sea connects it to the islands of Brač and Hvar, located directly opposite Makarska Riviera. Makarska has a direct ferry line that connects it to the island of Brač. The city has very pleasant Mediterranean climate with average winter temperature of 10°C and summer temperature of 25°C and more than 2750 hours of sun per year. Makarska is a charming little city by the sea with some 15,000 inhabitants. Many consider it highly attractive due to its mild climate and relaxed lifestyle.
